The Difference Between the UK Version and the US Version of Skins
by Kirill Ryabov
There are two different versions of the TV series, Skins. One is the United Kingdom version and the other one is the United States version. The United Kingdom version is about a group of British teenagers that are trying to deal with life and learn about love without any paternal supervision. Therefore, there is usually a lot of partying going on between the three main characters. The three main characters are Effy Stonem, Chris Miles, and Sid Jenkins. Effy Stonem is played by Kaya Scodelario. Chris Miles is played by Joseph Dempsie. Sid Jenkins is played by Mike Bailey.
Sid tries really hard to be friends with everyone and somehow always ends up being stepped all over. He is best friends with Tony and is in love with his girlfriend, Michelle. And Tony sleeps around on Michelle with every girl that will give him a chance. He tries to manipulate Sid and Michelle and anyone else he thinks he can get by with it. Cassie is falling in love with Sid but she has some mental issues of her own to deal with. Chris is a party animal and most of the time, he is either drunk or high.
The United States version of the show is based on the same scenario as the United Kingdom version. The biggest difference is that most of the names have been changed. Another difference is the character Maxxie was replaced by Tea, a lesbian cheerleader. Some of the other differences include the music, the words, production, and tone. The music in the United States version is more popish. This helps to get the attention of the younger population. The words in the US version are more cute. They try to make light of some of the serious issues like sex and drugs.
The production quality of the United States version is a lot better than the United Kingdom version. The producers of the show are flawless about their work. The whole tone of the US version of the show is completely different. The characters have a darker side to them in the United States version. In the United Kingdom version of the show, the characters are more funny and have a better personality. The United Kingdom show is unedited so it has a more raw feel to it. I think that both versions have a very unique way of telling the stories of the teenagers.
