"People Make History" He Said
by Lance Winslow
One of the most interesting quotes I've heard is that; people make history. And whereas, this is true, I'd like to point out that is usually a certain type of person that makes history and it generally isn't the mass mob. So, sure, people make history, but it is usually the individual unreasonable man that does the doing, not the masses which tend to follow a trend, which was initiated by the one. Thus, I'd like to change that quote because it is incorrect; the correct quote should be this;
"It Is the Individual Who Makes History"
Even large movements of people, and great battles which are fought, it is always the general or commander of the Army, or the leader of a nation that gets their name in the history books, and is discussed at length in the encyclopedia. Although there may have been many people in the past history who have participated in the making of history of that era, generally the events that occurred were attributed to individuals on one side or the other. Therefore, it is the individual that makes history.
And this is why the individual is so important, and if we fail to understand the importance of each and every individual, and instead mold them into the mass of society, then nothing will ever get done, and history will never be made. Rather the blob of bureaucracy and the masses of the mob will move through the generations without accomplishing anything, or providing for the forward progression of the human species.
Is this a statement against socialism, and for capitalism? Is it a statement against collectivism and for objectivism? Perhaps, but more importantly, it is proof that the individual still matters, and they always have. I hope you will please consider this, next time you embrace socialism.
