Recommended Vampire Fiction For Young Adults
by Roxanne Vizcayno
Ever since the explosion of Twilight, many vampire-related books have been appearing on books stores to tempt the teens. Given the massive purchasing power of the teen generation, it's no wonder everyone wants a share of the market gold mine.
Are you wondering what books to read, but have no time to scrutinize them all? Not to mention the waste of money when you buy a couple of supernatural-related books only to be disappointed? Maybe this list of books to check out might prove to be useful to you:
1. The Blue Blood series by Melissa dela Cruz
A series of novels filled with mystery, romance and adventure. The Blue Blood novels explores the true nature of the fallen angels. Angels of heaven who were turned into vampires. Melissa dela Cruz weaves an interesting twist to the unfolding story of the hero Schuyler Van Alen's quest to find out about her heritage.
2. Blood Coven series by Mari Mancusi
Rayne desperately wants to be a vampire, but due to a mistaken identity, her twin Sunshine was bitten instead. If you love Buffy the Vampire slayer and like some comedic dose to your daily serving of gore, this series is for you. Blood Coven is one of the funniest vampire novels out there that has a lot of potential to be a cult hit.
3. Look For Me By Moonlight by Mary Downing Mahn
A mystery thriller that will thrill fans of lore and gore! Mahn is a sorceress in creating a bone chilling atmosphere in this supernatural, murder-mystery tale about Cynda who irresistibly falls for an older guy staying at her father's inn. But something about him makes her feel uneasy. Depictions of family relationships are real and echoes the situations faced by teens today. Highly recommended.
4. The Morganville Vampire series by Rachel Caine
Now this book series is highly unusual, as the main character is a refreshing change from romance angle vampire novels flooding the markets today. Claire is a gifted human who enrolls in a university populated by vampires and humans. Being bullied by the IT girl in campus, she has no choice but to move out of the dorm and stay at the Glass House, a no man's zone in town. The description of the vampire men here makes you anxious not to fall for them.
5. Cirque Du Freak by Darren Shan
This book has already spawned a series and several followings. It follows the storey of Darren who was turned into a half-vampire in exchange for his best friend's cure. He became the vampire assistant of Mr. Crepsley who works for a traveling circus freak show. The book is a good and easy read for young adults and is aimed for teens ages 10-13.
I've read most of the books listed here, and so far my most favorite are the Blue Blood series by Melissa dela Cruz. The rest of the books are good reads for teens and are highly recommended by other adults as good reads.
